That may be the most prophetic statement every uttered on this list.  
The streams engine is an abomination that S3 stapled onto the side of 
the ViRGE engine so they didn't have to do any actual design work to 
implement overlays.  It's like having two graphics engines in one chip, 
and the two don't get along very well.
