[Savage40] Problems with suspend w/ FC3

I recently installed Fedora Core 3 on my Thinkpad laptop using the 1.1.27 included with the X.org 6.8.1 release. Previously, I'd been running FC1 with the latest (1.1.27t) savage driver from Tims web site together with whatever XFree86 release was the default, without any major glitches..

Now when I suspend or hibernate, the machine will often, but not always, mess up video playback. The video window (running mplayer or xine) will open normally, but some kind of overlay will appear seemingly over the video window and extending to (about?) twice the height of the real window. If I move the window, this overlay will move along with it, but is still extending beyond the window with which it is associated. The overlay is black - no video is shown.

Another thing that seem to trigger a similar effect is to switch resolutions using xrandr. I seem to remember getting a similar effect this way even with FC1 + 1.1.27t, but I never had any trouble after suspension.

I've tried switching vt:s before and after suspension, and even if I restart the X server the problem persists.

Anyone got any ideas or suggestions, short of going back to FC1?
