You might try with xorg from cvs or use an older savage X server. The
code in 6.8.x leaves the overlay on all the time, rather than setting
it up each time a video is displayed. Since the overlay regs are not
restored on resume, they can potentially lose their settings when you
suspend the machine. The code in xorg cvs has changed to set up the
overlay each time you use it (roughly the old behavior), so it should
work for you.
