[Savage40] Best way of using Savage driver with Debian Sarge

Hello,

what would currently the way of least resistance to try out the new Savage 
driver on Debian Sarge? (Time contraints)

I am concerned messing up my system when I install X.org to it. Is it 
possible to remove X.org easily and get the old XFree86 setup working 
again in case it doesn't work (either due to software or user 
problems;-)?

Anyone tried it on Debian? I like to try it on my IBM ThinkPad T23 laptop.
