ho ho ho, you're having the same troubles I had :)

here's some light on your troubles (as Felix said on the dri-users
ML,"[Dri-users] New snapshots", today actually (2005.01.31)):

"The default module format changed in Xorg CVS. However, the snapshots
are still built with the old module format because that's the format
still in use in the latest Xorg releases. If you compiled Xorg from CVS
with the new module format you'll have to restore the last release first
before installing the new snapshots."

so you're mixing old 'module format(s)' (6.8.1) with the new one (dri.fdo's Xorg CVS)

so, I'd suggest you try the savage snapshot from: http://dri.freedesktop.org/~fxkuehl/snapshots
