what version of the driver are you using?  the version that shipped
6.8.1/2 had problems with re-initializing the overlay after a mode
switch (it didn't).  It's fixed in xorg from cvs.  Also, using the
overlay in conjunction with the panel scaler is somewhat broken with
prosavage chips ATM.
