Doesn't Debian have a package manager? You should be able to find a
more recent X.org release as a package upgrade. Or, as another poster
suggested, start over with Ubuntu 6.0. It is Debian-based, but seems to
do a much better job of "keeping up". I've never been a Debian guy, but
I've become attached to Ubuntu.
However, before you go to the trouble, remember that the Savage 4 is an
8-year-old chip. The 3D engine sucks. Even after you go to this
trouble, it isn't going to be a screamer. What are you hoping to do
with it?
