It won't work unless your bios contains support for the 1680x1050 mode
which it probably doesn't. By default the savage driver uses the bios
to set modes. There is some code to manually program the mode which
might work if the you've disabled the panel or booted with the lid
closed. I have plans to add full non-bios mode setting support (and
even randr-1.2 support), but I don't know when I'll get to it.
