[Savage40] X.org hang on logout, garbled display, no 3D acceration with xserver-video-xorg-savage debian package 1:2.1.2-5

JFYI I am having a lot of issues with the new xserver-video-xorg-savage 
debian package on an IBM ThinkPad T23 which pulled in some changes from 
upstream:

According to the changelog it has fixes from upstream upto: 
4b2a0ad8f15e7b11f7c8251fb032b9df4f07ce96

What are your recent experiences?

It does not have a high priority for me as I mostly use my ThinkPad T23 as 
Amarok machine together with suspend2 and thus I usually do not log out 
and I do not use 3D acceleration anymore.

But still to me the driver in the current debian package seems quite 
broken.
