# Compliance Portal quickstart

This guide takes you from an empty organization to an active Compliance Portal.

## Prerequisites

- Access to an organization in the Probo console
- Permission to create and update Compliance Portals
- Approved content to publish

## Create and launch a portal

1. **Create the portal**

Open **Compliance Portals** in the organization sidebar and select **Create Compliance Portal**. Enter the legal or customer-facing entity name, then create the portal.

Creating a portal assigns it a public URL and opens its configuration page. The portal remains inactive until you enable it.

2. **Complete the public profile**

Open the **Brand** tab. Add a description, website URL, contact email, and headquarters address. Upload separate logos for light and dark backgrounds if needed.

3. **Add public content**

Use the **References**, **Commitments**, **Audits**, **Documents**, **Files**, and **Subprocessors** tabs to choose what the portal presents. Adding an internal record to the portal is a separate action; records are not published automatically.

See [Publishing content](/docs/product/compliance-portal/publishing-content) for the available content types and visibility settings.

4. **Review access controls**

On the **Overview** tab, upload an NDA if visitors must accept one. For each document, audit report, or portal file, confirm whether its visibility should be **Public** or **Restricted**.

5. **Review the configuration**

Check the profile, links, content labels, visibility settings, and public URL. Inactive portals return a not-found response to visitors, so activate the portal before testing the public experience.

6. **Activate and verify the portal**

Return to **Overview** and enable **Activate compliance portal**. Once active, use **Open** in the page header to visit the portal. Verify it while signed out and, if you publish restricted content, with a visitor account.

Search engine indexing can be enabled only while the portal is active. Leave it disabled if the portal should not be included in search engine indexes.
